VGC Labour Solutions is continuously looking at ways that we can increase the quality of the staff that we provide in terms of competence, attitude towards safety and fitness for work. In order to address ‘fitness for work' we are introducing "Pre-Employment Drugs & Alcohol Screening" for staff supplied by VGC on designated civil's contracts. We will be rolling this programme out to all civils contracts over the next few months.
This testing is in addition to existing processes for pre-employment & random screenings for Rail, London Underground & Safety Critical Staff. In 2009 we carried out random screenings on 11% of these workers.
Tests will be administered for alcohol using Home Office approved testing equipment and our testers are all trained and competent administer the tests.
VGC has a zero tolerance approach to drugs & alcohol in the workplace and our tests are carried out to a zero traceable level for drugs and alcohol.
VGC are fully supportive of all efforts to ensure that "Zero Harm" can be achieved and will continue to improve our processes to ensure that a positive safety culture is instilled in all people that work for us.
